The following is a list of workshops and conferences held to date in Washington DC by the SAGE project.

Working closely with USAID's Office of
Women in Development (G/WID), and representatives of Juárez and

for a two-day workshop. The workshop, hosting 45 participants including
USAID Mission Education Officers and 5 GWE/GEA/SAGE host country coordinators,
focused on incorporating all sectors into the planning and implementation

design, to the management, monitoring and evaluation, and building of coalitions
and networks to sustain girls’ education projects.

controversy in girls' education and to develop implications for policy
and practice. The participants included 200 domestic and international
“policy shapers”–senior planners, program managers, evaluators; researchers;
international agency representatives; and other practitioners from the
public and private sectors. Over thirty countries were represented
among the participants, from Peru to Pakistan, with approximately 80 participants
arriving from outside of the United States. To learn more about the Symposium,

Colloquium on HIV/AIDS and Girls' Education
October
25-26, 2000
The colloquium was the first ever event
sponsored by a donor organization or government to explore the relationship
of HIV/AIDS to girls’ education. Over 150 participants attended the
panel presentation on the first day and heard from a panel of top researchers
and senior USAID officials, including Professor Alan Whiteside, director
of the Health Economics and HIV/AIDS Research Division of the University
of Natal, Durban, South Africa. Keynote remarks were made by Uganda’s
Ambassador to the United States, the Honorable Edith Ssempala. On the second
day, approximately 40 participants met to discuss the results of the previous
day’s panel discussions and to frame an agenda for collaborative and innovative
responses to the crisis.
